Celebrate in Jubilee style

The Jubilee bank holiday calls for dressing up and getting out and about. Here is some celebratory Javelin inspiration.

Whether it’s a street party close to home, a barbecue in the garden, or a family trip further afield, we expect you’ve got some plans brewing for the long Jubilee bank holiday weekend.

But if you need some inspiration, we’ve spotted some special things to do and places to go not too far from our Suffolk base.

What to wear? Well as you’d expect we’re all geared up and on hand to help you pick out a special item or outfit.

And please forgive us for coming over all patriotic, but we couldn’t resist going all out with a red, white and blue theme this week. After all, the Queen only has her Platinum Jubilee once, right?

  • Afternoon Tea in Royal style

The Swan at Lavenham has created a Fit for a Queen afternoon tea which it is serving from May 21st right through to July. Finger sandwiches, scones with cream and jam (of course) and some specially created ‘Royal’ cakes. Irresistible.

  • Day at the races

Huntingdon Racecourse is delightful -  though sometimes finds itself in the shadow of its more famous neighbour, Newmarket. Why not earmark June 3rd as the date for an afternoon of racing combined with a Jubilee garden party? Hats at the ready.

  • Night at the movies

The Abbeygate cinema - one of the region’s best loved and most vibrant picture houses is showing Downton Abbey: A New Era until at least May 26th. The perfect film to indulge your love of all things aristocratic. The Queen would approve, we think.

  • Family fun day out

It’s a real East Anglia favourite; families return year after year for the half term treat that is The Suffolk Show. There really is something for everyone. Hopefully you won’t need your wellies, but if you do, make them red white or blue.
